Interview with Michelle Hughes and a special offer!

I am so honored to have Michelle Hughes, my fellow Kindle Press author, here with me. Her book, Cowboy Sanctuary, is on a very special promotion for only 99cents until April 3rd!

"There’s something about a cowboy that no woman can resist. After all, the safest place to be is in a cowboy’s arms…"

I loved the relationship between Dana and Brock and the many twists and turns of their love story.

Get your Cowboy Sanctuary on Amazon and fall in love with Michelle's story, too!

I am going to start her interview by her last answer, because I so loved it:

Cris: Describe yourself in three words:

Michelle: Mom of five

Cris: Would you share a little bit about yourself with us today?

Michelle: I’d love to. I’m a mom to five great kids, grandmother to 1 ½ and a former singer/songwriter. I decided to write books after being laid off from a job in respiratory back in 2008 and haven’t stopped since.

Cris: Tell us about your Kindle Press book.

Michelle: Cowboy Sanctuary is my first contemporary western romance. It was such a joy to write a book that fit in with my country life. I’ve always been fascinated with cowboys and grew up riding horses on my Aunt’s farm in Alabama. This book has an incredible Hero, and Brock is my idea of the perfect man. Submitting to Kindle Scout was an experience that I’ll never forget, and I mean that in a good way. I’ve never written in this genre, so I know it’s because of all their promotion this book has done this well.

Cris: Where did you come up with the idea for your latest release? Is anything in your book based on real life experiences or purely all imagination?

Michelle: My latest release will be a sequel to my first book, Tears of Crimson. It’s a paranormal romance and based on dreams I’ve had since I was a young teenager. Cara and Rafe are as much a part of me as any person in real life.

All of my ideas come to me in dreams. I’ve often said I don’t choose to write a book the characters find me. There are many times that I get lost in writing and look back hours later wondering where all these words came from. I think those books are the most fun to write.

Cris: If your book were made into a movie, who would you want to play your main characters?

Michelle: If I had to choose main characters for Cowboy Sanctuary? Chris Pratt as Brock Dixon because he has those ruggedly handsome good looks that I think would fit the part perfectly. For my female lead, Dana? Emma Watson. She’s one of the few that I see as still sweet and innocent in the Hollywood life. I’m not much a stargazer. Unless you count Doctor Who. For some reason I’m fascinated with that show.

Cris: Who are some of your favorite authors that you like to read?

Michelle: I can’t name just a few. I will say that I read anything that has an innocent woman and a strong male lead. Those books have always been my favorite and the authors that write them make me smile. I think it’s a throwback to growing up reading Harlequin romances with my granny.

Cris: What do you enjoy doing when you’re not writing?

Michelle: My favorite thing to do is make incredible memories with my kids. They grow up so fast and before you know it they are making families of their own. We live on forty acres in the middle of the country, so most of our time is spent together. I’ve been really blessed with terrific children.

Cris: Tell us something you hate doing. Why?

Michelle: Cleaning! I still have four children at home which means more loads of laundry than one person should ever have to wash. I’ve always said if I ever become rich and famous the first thing I’m doing is hiring a maid so I never have to wash another load of clothes again. On general cleaning, I hate it because five minutes after making something perfect, it’s destroyed. But I’m a clean freak so it gets done.

Cris: What is one interesting fact about you that readers don’t know?

Michelle: I gave up a singing career to raise a family. Living on the road with children is horrible. I tried it with my oldest child and it was pandemonium. When I had my twins I knew that I wasn’t going to have any sanity if I didn’t find something else to do with my life.

Cris: Do you have a favorite quote that sums up how you feel about life?

Michelle: I do. Live, Laugh, and Love. We are only on this earth a short while, so why not live life to the fullest. Laugh when you can, even when you want to cry. Love completely because I think that’s what life is really about.

Cris: Are you a plotter or a panzer? And do you set daily writing goals?

Michelle: I’m a fly by the seat of my pants writer who never outlines anything. If I have to think to write a book, then it’s one I shouldn’t be writing. Great thoughts should flow like wine, not be forced into submission. My feelings.

I really don’t set goals unless I have a project coming up that has a deadline. I try to make sure that NEVER happens. On average I write about 5,000 words a day, but it depends on my mood. I’m a fulltime author and mom so yes, I get the chance.
